How To Clean Your Old Candle Jars and Containers

How To Clean Your Old Candle Jars and Containers

Have you ever wondered how you can clean your old candle jars and containers? Today, we are going to share with you some tips and tricks to give a new life to your old candle containers.

If you are a candle addict, you must have a sprawling collection of burnt-out candle containers piled up in a corner. You have enjoyed each candle but didn’t want to throw out the beautiful container. Well, the first step towards reusing the candle jars is to clean it through and remove any wax, which may be stuck to the bottom of the container.

How To Clean The Leftover Wax

There are four different ways to clean the leftover wax from the candle container.

  • Freezer Method

The freezer method works because the candle wax becomes brittle when frozen. This makes it easy to remove it from the container.

Start by placing the candle container in the freezer for a couple of hours. Once the wax has frozen completely, use a knife to gently pry out the wax. You can also take a paper towel, put some warm water on it, and wipe out any leftover wax.

  • Double Boiler Method

The double boiler method is beneficial to remove stubborn leftover wax.

Take a bowl with boiling water and gently sit the candle container in it for a few minutes. The heat from the boiling water will melt the wax attached to the corners of the container and you can easily remove it with a paper towel. Finish off cleaning the jar by washing it with warm water.

  • Wash and Go Method

Soy wax often has a low melting point and thus it is easier to clean the leftover wax from the jar. If you are buying candles made of Soy wax, this is the easiest method to clean the containers.

Take a sharp knife and remove as much wax as possible from the container. Next, fill up the jar with hot water and put in a few drops of dish soap. Let it sit for a few minutes. Finally, scrub the insides of the container and you are good to go.

  • Hair Dryer Method

If your candle came in a long thin container, you can still clean the container to reuse it later on. Take your hairdryer and set it on hot heat. Blow the hot air inside the candle container to loosen the wax from the sides. Finally, take a spoon or a chopstick to scrape out the wax and use a paper towel to clean the container.

Things to Keep in Mind

  • When cleaning the candle container, do not forget to remove the wick holder. If the holder is stuck to the bottom of the container, slip a sharp knife and pop it out. A little boiling water can also help to remove the wick holder.
  • It is also worth keeping the old wax aside as you can use it for a number of DIY projects in the future.
  • Do not pour the melted wax down the drain. As it can end up clogging the pipe once it solidifies.
  • It is also vital to avoid overheating the candle container as the glass can explode if the container gets too hot.
  • Do not microwave the candle container to remove the wax. The wick holder is made out of metal and can potentially destroy your microwave or start a fire.

After you have followed the above-listed instructions, you will be able to recycle your candle containers and use it for multiple purposes.
